Mastopexy, commonly known as a breast lift, is a surgical procedure designed to elevate and reshape the breasts.
As women age, experience fluctuations in weight, or undergo pregnancy and breastfeeding, the breasts can lose their firmness and sag. Mastopexy addresses this issue by removing excess skin, tightening the surrounding tissue, and repositioning the nipple to achieve a more youthful and aesthetically pleasing contour. The procedure can also enhance breast symmetry, which is an important aspect of overall body proportion.
The surgical technique for mastopexy can vary based on the degree of lift required and the patient’s individual anatomy. Common approaches include the anchor, periareolar, and vertical techniques, each differing in the incision patterns used. During the consultation we can discuss the different options and the benefits of each technique as well as discuss breast size if an augmentation or reduction is desired as well. Recovery from mastopexy typically involves some swelling and discomfort, but most patients can return to normal activities within a few weeks.
